Spiritual Gift Mercy
The Greek word for the spiritual gift of mercy is “eleeō” G1653.
Definition and Purpose of the Mercy Gift
The spiritual gift of mercy is the special ability God gives to cheerfully and practically help those who are suffering (physically, mentally, or emotionally) by putting compassion into action. Groups need someone with this gift in order to increase effectiveness of the body by accomplishing practical and necessary tasks, which free up, support, and meet the needs of others.
Service ideas: greeter, benevolence ministry (providing meal for the sick, new born parents, etc.;) emergency shelter, food and clothing distribution, transportation to services, doctors, store; emergency child-care, cards/flowers for special occasions, financial assistance, mercy ministries (e.g., homeless, prison ministry, crisis pregnancy centers, special needs ministries, support-groups etc.), visitations, prayer ministry
Vulnerability of the Spiritual Gift of Mercy
All the gifts, talents and abilities that we have can be used negatively. When mercy is used in a selfish, harsh, over-barring, reckless manner or when it is enabling sin or dysfunctional behavior, it would not be Spirit-led or an expression of love. This gift is best used when coupled with Leadership, Apostle, Government, Wisdom, Pastor and Prophecy.
For example, someone with the gifting of mercy could be blessed to be naturally tolerant, but in turn may unintentionally have weaker convictions.

Matthew 20:29-34 As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.” 34 Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.
Romans 12:8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
