Definition and Purpose of the Apostle Gift
The Spiritual Gift Apostle is present where the Spirit appoints certain Christians to led, inspire and develop the churches of God by the proclamation and the teaching of true doctrine. Groups need someone with this gift to initiate the planting and starting of ministries and churches, as well as to keep the assembly in alignment with Biblical truths.
Service ideas: pioneer new ministries and churches, consultant for projects, elder, mentor, strategy/vision casting, big picture planning and development committees, overseer of ministry/outreach projects, leadership training/care, head pastor, mission director or team member
Vulnerability of the Spiritual Gift Apostle
All the gifts, talents and abilities that we have can be used negatively. When apostle is used in a selfish, harsh, over-barring, reckless manner or when it is enabling sin or dysfunctional behavior, it would not be Spirit-led or an expression of love. This gift is best used when coupled with Service, Helps, Giving, Intercession, Mercy and Hospitality.
For example, someone with the Apostle gifting could be blessed with a natural authoritative character, but in turn can unintentionally be too direct or demanding.

Matthew 10:1-8 Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. 5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. 7 As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,[a] drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
Acts 2:42-44 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common.
Acts 14:14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of this, they tore their clothes and rushed out into the crowd, shouting;
Romans 16:7 Greet Andronicus and Junia, my fellow Jews who have been in prison with me. They are outstanding among the apostles, and they were in Christ before I was.
1 Corinthians 12:28-31 And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? 31 Now eagerly desire the greater gifts.
2 Corinthians 12:12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.
Ephesians 4:11-16 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
