You’re Accepted! Let’s Get Going!

Once you have filled out and submitted part one of the application and have been officially accepted into the Internship or Short-Term Program, these will be your next steps.

  1. Fill Out The Medical Form & Ministry Waiver
  2. Set Up Your Prayer Team
    • Select a Team Facilitator – Who is your number one fan? Depending on their willingness, they may be the best facilitator of your Prayer Team.
    • Pray about who will be on your Team – Do you have a connection with anyone on the leadership team of your covering church? We suggest you get at least one member from your covering church on your team. Is there a prayer or missions ministry already up and running?
    • Start meeting with the Team Leader – Aim to meet on a weekly basis for accountability and fellowship
    • Meet with your Prayer Team – Aim to meet on a monthly basis. Talk about expectation for team members, plan to communicate, and pray for the support raising process. We encourage the team to keep meeting once you are abroad.
    • Fill out your prayer team form
  3. Start Raising Financial Support
    • The first people you should contact is your prayer team. Remember that giving is always better than receiving so don’t be shy about asking people to partner with you.
    • Support raising is not an easy job, and actually it is a lot of hard work. But it is worth it! You are giving God’s people an opportunity to join Him at work in the world to make Him known and treasured forever. What an awesome privilege.
    • Remember this is not all about you but ultimately bringing glory to God. So pray hard for God to move in hearts to partner with you and be bold in telling others about what God is doing in the world. There are more resources for support raising available.
    • Apply for the CHIP Intern Program – this will allow your incoming donations to be tax deductible for your donors. Talk with your OEM Advisor for more information.
  4. Communicate
    • Create your own blogging website or start posting on social media. Starting from today we suggest you begin making posts about how God is meeting you in this step of faith.
    • Also look into using Mailchimp. It is free, easy to use and a great way to send out your updates to a long email list. Once you are in Costa Rica you will need to continue to send out updates and prayer requests to your supporters, friends, and family.
  5. Update Your OEM Advisor
    • Send fundraising updates to your Ocean’s Edge Advisor
    • 6-12 months before estimated arrival – required monthly updates
    • 4 months before estimated arrival – required weekly updates
  6. Set A Tentative Date
    • It is good to have a goal of when you would like to make the move to Costa Rica. Of course, it will be completely dependent upon how support raising is going but it is helpful to have a goal (and specific prayer) in mind. Prayerfully consider when you could realistically be ready to go.
    • When you reach 90% of your budget you will be able to purchase your ticket.
    • When you reach 100% of your budget you are free to come join us in Costa Rica!
  7. Buy Your Plane Ticket!
    • You should be 90% funded before you purchase a plane ticket.
  8. Your Arrival
    • Once you are 100% funded you will be ready to join us in Costa Rica!
    • When here, you agree to commit to meet with an Ocean’s Edge Mentor on a weekly basis.
