We are called as Christians to identify ourselves with Christ, embrace an deep and personal relationship with God and to dedicate ourselves to God’s will. But what does this kind of missions lifestyle really look like? The first thing that may come to mind is Matthew 28:19-20, where Jesus said, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
The mission to spread the Gospel to all nations and to make disciples of all people is not the responsibility of a select few, but rather the privilege and obligation of every Christ-follower. The Bible is full of examples of people who were called to leave their comfort zones and venture into unknown territory in order to share God’s love with others. We see how God used ordinary people to do extraordinary things for His kingdom from Abraham to Paul and to us
Being willing to “go” where you are today
A missions lifestyle entails being willing to go wherever God leads us, share the Gospel with others, and make disciples who will make more disciples. This can include going abroad as a missionary, but it can also include being a witness for Christ in our daily lives and sharing the Gospel with those around us where we are right now.
Living a missionary lifestyle necessitates sacrifice, faith, and a willingness to rely on God’s provision. It could mean leaving behind our familiar surroundings, learning a new language, or facing persecution for our beliefs. The rewards, however, are great, as we get to see lives transformed by the power of the Gospel and be a part of God’s work in the world.
I invite you to join the Ocean’s Edge team in adopting a missions mindset and to pray about how God may be calling you to be a part of His mission. We can all contribute to spreading Christ’s love to those in need, whether through prayer, giving, or going.
May God bless you as you seek to follow Him and carry out His plans for your life.
