Bowing down to the Corona Virus?

Suddenly, we woke up one day and the COVID 19 Virus had changed everything. The virus, also called “Corona” (Spanish for “crown”), has in many ways won it’s deminion over so many parts of our lives.

We are humbled and faced with how fragile our world is as the corona virus reaches across all boarders, with no respect of persons. Status, religion, race, and sex are all set aside. Our equality unifies us and as “the vulnerable”. The King has decreed: “Bow down!”

Exposed to a Deadly Risk

Our plans, business strategies and hobbies all have all faded, in light of this new king. We have isolated as events have been canceled, restaurants, bars and even churches close their doors. We must respond because there is a daily temptation to be consumed with fear, impatience, greed, and hopelessness.

If you do not know the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, take a minute to read it. (See Daniel 3). The courage I find in their response reinvigorates the deepest part of who I am. In the face of danger–and with full awareness of their weak position–they refused to bow. When given a change to reconsider or die, they responded:

“King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” (Daniel 3:16-18)

Resolution and Focus

But, how could they be so sure? Their focus and faith remained on God’s character! Risk, circumstances, threats and even blessings were not in considersation as they stood with feet firmly planted. The story is void of any preoccupation to save self or any desperation to remain in the comforts of this world.

In the days to come, we will also face the fire. Will we fold? Or will we walk through it wholly submitted to God’s kindness and mercy?

The Covid 19 battle is real!

My heart goes out to all the families who have lost a loved ones. To each of my brothers and sisters around the world who have suffered the pain and loss this corona virus has brought, I send my love and prayers. I wish I could give you a hug or help in some way. I stand in prayer with you all. May you:

… Be comforted instead of overwhelmed.

… Find the rest, peace and joy your soul has been aching for and has needed.

…hope in the eternal, even through the mostly daunting fire, for one day there will be no tears or suffering.

… find that the Corona Virus, panic, fear, impatience, greed, and hopelessness all bow down to your faith in the God, who is still in control.

I confidently pray His will be done because I know His is good. May you be comforted by this truth as well.

So be it, Amen.

Corona 19

As the faithful emerged from the flames, King Nebuchadnezzar answered, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and delivered his servants, who trusted in him, and set aside the king’s command, and yielded up their bodies rather than serve and worship any god except their own God.” Daniel 3:28

If there was ever a time to draw near to our heavenly father, NOW would be the time. No matter the circumstance or outcome; it is always a blessing to be at His mercy. You resting faith will be a blessing to all though around you.
