Created with a Purpose

Destiny AssessmentDevoted Paths and Divine Destiny Uniquely created Assement

We are all created on purpose; for a purpose, and with a purpose. For me, I know I am created on purpose but struggled with knowing my purpose. Prior to beginning my internship at Ocean’s Edge, I took the Destiny Assessment, which is an inventory on what God is doing in people’s lives. It couples personalty tests with spiritual gifts to help discover God’s fingerprint on your life.

Finding your purpose

Throughout our lives, others tell us who we are and what we are like. Some statements are truthful and encouraging. So we let these words ignite us like a sparkler, bringing security only a few minutes. Meanwhile, the lies are stored. They take root, hold us, and ultimately shape us. The Destiny Assessment aids in discovering your spiritual gifts, in doing so, the lies are destroyed as God’s truth about you is revealed. Who you truly are in His eyes and what you were created to do.

“and having put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” (Colossians 3:10)

My purpose

I was eager to learn these truths. The Destiny Assessment revealed that I am an “inspiring benefactor”; aware of what is happening around and constantly responding to the needs and wants of others. I have a strong belief and confidence in the potential of others. I am a natural encourager, inspiring leader, and facilitator. These are the truths of my natural personality, being brought to light while destroying any lies about myself that consumed me.

My top spiritual gifts are teaching, leadership, and mercy. My greatest areas of victory are in my gift of teaching coupled with my gift of knowledge; along with my gift of leading, coupled with mercy. God created me with a purpose. I may not know exactly what career I will pursue or where I will live but I now know the truth about who I am. I am a child of God, created by God to teach others about Him, to lead others to Him, and to see and meet the needs around me.

Romancing The City

Saturday morning, The Horizon Church women’s ministry made gift bags to bring into 30 of Jaco’s businesses. Each woman arrived with baked goods in hand and a smile on their faces, prepared for the day ahead. Romancing the city the way God romances us.

What we’ve been doing

As interns, Ashley and Kyle worked on this project and I joined in once I arrived in Jaco. For us, we created pages on JacoBeachInfo.com of each business. Whether a restaurant, souvenir shop, or surf shop, each page contained photos and a description. This job was centered on appreciating the business while promoting them to tourists. The past week we worked to fully complete 30 of the 500+ businesses.

As the women joined us Saturday, the bags were filled with baked goods and a bible verse specifically for that business along with a link to their personal page. Our hope was that the owners and employees would feel loved as we went into their businesses, thanking them for what they do while offering prayer over them.

There’s always time for God

I was teamed up with the other intern, Ashley, and Sarah Barrett. We took our five gift bags and set off into downtown Jacó. I thought it was just a coincidence that I was in the same group as Sarah but as Ashley and I debriefed later that day, we talked about what a blessing it was. We saw first hand the heart Sarah has for the Lord and for the people of Jacó. To her, it wasn’t just a list to check off after visiting each place. Each business had individuals that Sarah knew and was praying for.

Our last stop was a tiny air conditioned restaurant with an even tinier kitchen boxed in the back (with no a/c). We found the owner, she was working tirelessly with her son cooking. We thought it was going to be a fairly quick exchange; however, when Sarah told her that we wanted to pray for them , the women said “Come in come in, shut the door, there is always time for God.” That line stuck with me. This women was in the middle of serving the lunch hour rush on a Saturday and yet she stopped, taking a moment to pray with us.

Seeing the fruit

I had the ability to see the fruit in what we were doing. Earlier that week I struggled with being so task-oriented: “finish the 30 pages, add the photos, is there a description?” That I lost sight of what we were doing; going into businesses and building relationships through love and prayer. Now as we work to finish each page for every business, I am excited to see the fruit of our labor once again.

Why Don’t We Praise God More?

Why Don’t We Praise God More?

Praise God? For some, the idea of worshiping God brings up questions of His worthiness or even existence. For me this is not the case, God has proven Himself as praiseworthy and deserving of all that I am and all that I have. I have found His love to be freely given, forgiving and patient. I hear Him calling me to holiness with a hopefulness that I will choose life to the full.  I know His intention is to protect me from the consequences that steal, kill and destroy.

I have found that God is also true to His promises, although, sometimes it is not in my timing or how I expected it. With humility and grace, I know He hears my prayers and cares about my struggles.  He is always present with me offering wisdom, companionship and healing. All of this is to say, I can testify to the goodness of a life unconditionally surrendered to Him.

I have found the strongest motivator to praise God is my understanding of His character and my personal experience of His love. Yet, I find myself distracted by the busyness of this world. With my attention directed at so many other things, I quickly feel the loss of intimacy that comes when I am more closely walking hand and hand with God. Still, He “always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres” (1 Corinthians 13:7).

God’s Rightful Place

Praise God God's Rightful place

The one and true God of the Bible is not manmade or a power that can be harnessed. We see only a reflection of His majesty and glory on the earth, but one day He will make Himself fully known.  The Bible says this experience will bring us all to our knees in reverence, some in fear and others in pure gratitude (Isaiah 45:23, Romans 14:11).  Still, on that day we will all praise God.

He is the all-powerful LORD of Lords with a throne of sapphire, surrounded by a brilliant light (Ezekiel 1:25-28).  From this lofty place, He holds the Stars and Earth in place. With His laws of science, He regulates the earths distance from the sun, gravitational pull and our atmosphere. God allows our hearts to beat, our eyes to see and our lungs to breath deep (Colossians 1:17).

God is also intently involved in our continued existence and everyday lives. When he looks at us, it is with pleasure, favor and care. He sees our heart ache. He laughs at the funny things we do and smiles when we delight in His gifts. We have His attention (Psalm 8:4-8).

My Rightful Place

Praise God Personal Experience

I have been decisively created and ordained for a divine purpose (Eph 2:10). Nevertheless, as God’s beloved, I am free and have the ability to embrace the path He has set out before more or to choose my own path.  With this freewill, I give heart to whom I please. I steward my feelings, will and intellect. My strength will be spent and my worship released as I allow.

The responsibility to walk in liberty, make the most of my days and intentionally direct my praise to God is my own.  With this being the case, I pray that God’s unfailing love would rest on me, that my eyes would constantly refocus on His goodness, and that nothing would holds me back from falling more in love with Him (Galatians 5:1).

“From heaven the Lord looks down & sees all mankind; from His dwelling place He watches all who live on earth- he who forms the hearts of all who considers everything they do… May your unfailing love rest upon us” Ps 33:13-15, 22

It Is All About A Love Remembered | Kelsey Vormbrock

About a Love Remembered

Have you ever thought about how people will remember you when you’re gone? What would you want them to say about you? Most of us, of course, want to be remembered as a good person and someone who lived their life to the fullest, but is that all that matters? Here’s an even tougher question for you readers: how would you want God to remember your life?

When asked this question my first thought was, “I want God to remember how kind I was.” Pretty general, right? I took the next week to really think about and reflect on this question. God used this as an opportunity to pour into me how he wants to be able to describe my life. This is what he spoke into me:

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” –John 15:12-13

God’s Dream for My Life | My Legacy

God loves us, his children, so much he sacrificed his only Son so that we may be saved. Can you imagine a love so strong, a love so deep; you would be willing to give your life to save someone else’s? God calls us to love one another whole heartedly. With that being said, we are first called to love Him. We cannot love one another as God loves us before we know and love Him unconditionally. During my time here in Jaco, God has been teaching me just that. I have learned to love God in a deeper way than I ever could have imagined and through that love I am now able to show His love to the people of Jaco.

I have been blessed with a heart for children. I have a gift to connect with them in such a way it could only come from God, and I am determined to share that gifting. With every child I meet I am overcome by the innocence about them and their ability to take in everything going on around them. They have not yet been corrupted by the world we live in and therefor are in a perfect place to be molded into the people God calls us to be.

Who Are We to Love Any Differently?

Love Remembered Kelsey Vormbrock Oceans Edge Jaco BeachThe children of Jaco have captured my heart completely and have provided me with a perfect opportunity to show them God’s love. I strive to ensure every child feels safe and experiences a love remembered as pure and overflowing. I instill in them the importance of having manners, being polite and being giving of our worldly possessions. I encourage them to be the best person they can be and to never give up. I do not scold them when at first they do not succeed. I put their well-being before my own; I am selfless with them. Most importantly, I teach them what it means to love God so they may love others as He does.

These are all characteristics of God’s love. He keeps us safe, never abandoning us and always encouraging us. If at first we fail, God doesn’t get angry or frustrated. Instead, he picks us up, dusts us off, and tells us to try again. He is a patient and understanding Father. If God can love us in this way then who are we to love any differently?

We are called to love one another. First, seek God and what it means to love him whole heartedly. Then, share His love with everyone you meet.  It doesn’t matter what you do, or how you live, if you do not do everything in love.

“If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.”  –1 Corinthians 13:1-2

Perspective and Focus

That is how I want God to say I lived! I want Him and everyone else to look back on my life and say “WOW! Kelsey truly loved everybody she met just as God calls us to.” So now it’s your turn to answer. What would God say about you now and what do you want Him to say about you when your life is over? Go out and Love the Lord our God by loving all of His people and by fulfilling everything else he calls you to. God bless with a love remembered!

Where Divine Destiny Meets Devoted Paths

I wish we could sit down for a cup of coffee and talk about our life history and the events that have changed us.  There is something about processing our stories that really puts things into perspective.  It is funny how my story has changed over time.  My history hasn’t but I find myself skipping over events that once served as the key points.  Everything seems to be put into perspective as the picture gets wider.

Life Is All About Perspective

This makes me wonder how God sees our lives.  He has the benefit of living both inside and outside of time. So, His perspective is unique to say the least.  Have you ever considered which events, troubles and successes would make the cut if God were to tell your story?  That is a sobering thought but I think it is worth the meditation.   My perspective has changed quite a bit on this subject.

Honestly, I didn’t always believe that God really cared about the details of my life, hardships, heartbreaks or desires.  I mostly thought of Him as a morality security system.  If I did something wrong, I was sure He would be notified and correct the issue.  Otherwise, I was sure that He was busy with something else.  So if you asked me about my divine destiny I would be at a loss for words.

Yet, the Bible makes it clear that God pays attention to us as individuals and not just as part of the whole mass of humanity.  It also says that He is not limited by time or business.  Yet, it was hard for me to digest thoughts of God watching me sleep and counting the hairs on my head.  I would almost dismiss verses like this subconsciously because I didn’t know what to do with them.  They just didn’t fit with my world view and what I “knew” about His character.

“I often think of the heavens your hands have made, and of the moon and stars you put in place.  Then I ask, “Why do you care about us humans?  Why are you concerned for us weaklings?” (Psalms 8:3-4 AMP)

What If the Bible is Right and God Does Care?

God does care.  He cares enough to give us freewill and enough to draw us closer every chance we give Him.  Even when I had no intention of turning to Him, He loved me.  When I was heartbroken he collected my tears and gently whispered promises of something better.

“You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.  Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die.  But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  (Romans 5:6-8 NIV)

I started a little collection of key verses that changed my heart towards God.  (Please take a minute to share your favorites in the comment box below.)  For me the Psalms 139 stands our the most and has completely changed my perspective.  In particular verses 17 and 18:

grains of sand perspective #DivineDestinyDevotedPaths“How precious to me are your thoughts, God!  How vast is the sum of them!  Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you.” (Psalm 139:17-18 NIV)
“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.  And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10:29-31 NIV)
“You have taken account of my wanderings; Put my tears in Your bottle.  Are they not recorded in Your book?” (Psalms 56:8 AMP)
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.  I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.  You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” – (John 15:13-16 NIV)
